79 Jan Maurer (1952-2022)

Jan Maurer  (1952-2022)

Beloved wife, mom,  grandmother, sister, friend, and Christian, Janet Maurer, left this world after suffering a stroke on Sunday, Jan 30, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on March 31, 1952 to Lloyd and Helen Svedersky, Jan was the oldest of six children.  She grew up along the coast of Massachusetts with her family before they moved to Ohio her senior year where she met her soulmate.   She was a devoted wife and dedicated partner in ministry with her husband.  They served for 34 years in South Carolina before recently returning to Ohio.

Jan had many talents and her hobbies included reading, cooking, DIYing, painting, decorating, cracking jokes, and being the best “Granny Janny” to her grands.  She was known for her sweet smile, joyful laughs, and kind-hearted ways.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James V. Maurer, Sr. and their three loving children, Jim; Rochelle (Willis Martin), and Brynne; and grandkids, Anthony, Andrew, Mitchell, and Kate.

🌹I miss Jan greatly but I know God took her to be with Him for reasons that are perfect.  I can’t wait to see her again, which I definitely will.  That’s the wonderful hope of the Gospel (1Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2Corinthians 15:51-58).

Her passing is both celebratory and sad (Philippians 1:21; 2Corinthians 5:8).  It’s gain to Jan but loss to us.  But I would not take her or keep her for one second from her eternal reward.  She prepared for this.  She gave her heart to God when she was young.  She was baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost according to the Scriptures (Acts 2:38-39).  As a new convert in 1974, she embarked on a new life of holiness in Christ and lived it and loved it right up to the moment of her death.  She was a soldier of the cross faithfully and earnestly, standing by her husband in ministry.  She was an encouragement to many, both in the natural realm and the spiritual.

The world at large did not know Jan Maurer but certain happy souls, especially those related by family and close friendship, did.  I believe she was the greatest person in the world.  I know she was to me.  She took my name.  Together, we brought three beautiful children into the world.  We walked closely together through the ups and downs of life.  She was faithfully by my side in ministry and every aspect of faith.  I thanked her for these but, of course, never thanked her enough.  But, in the hours before she passed, I constantly thanked her for who she was and for sharing her life with me.  She was thankful, too.  About twenty-four hours before her fatal stroke, she said to me as we were about to retire for the night, “Thank you for taking such good care of me”.

God is good and faithful.  He gave me a special and beautiful person to be my wife.  I would give anything to go pick Jan up and bring her back home— the home we purchased together just a few months ago.  But, in the perfect wisdom of God, which is always according to His goodness and mercy, the Lord has taken her away.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.  I love Him and trust Him.  He knows best.  She cannot come to me but I can go to her.  She is in the better place and I will see her again.  I’m thankful for the 52 years that I have known her.  She is, and always will be, the love of my life.  Thank You, Jesus, for Jan!!!  And, thank You for the three great kids we brought into the world together.  I could not have been more blessed.  May we each finish our course as faithfully as the special one who finished first.
